back on the map. Discover New England, the offi cial tourism website for New England, had removed CT from its map, marketing materials, and efforts because the state failed to pay its dues to the organization. Much broader than a website, however, Discover New England works to raise international consumer, travel trade, and media awareness of New England as a memorable, high-quality, four- season destination.

In the past, Governor Malloy spoke at length about the pennywise and pound-foolish decision to drastically reduce tourism marketing funds. While the money for dues to Discover New England was withheld from the commission’s marketing budget, Governor Malloy directed other funds within existing resources be immediately used for Discover New England dues.

release this money – which had already been allocated to the CT Commission on Culture & Tourism – so quickly and get the state back on the map with its New England neighbors,” said Governor Malloy. “CT has so much to offer, and it’s a shame more people don’t know about it. CT’s exclusion from overseas marketing materials and efforts – and with it, information about the state’s cultural venues, tourist attractions and other events – was embarrassing, and spoke to a larger lack of understanding about the decisions we need to make to invest in our state and our region. As I’ve said before, my overarching goal is to ensure people know CT is open for business. With our inclusion once again in Discover New England, we’re sending that message loud and clear.” In support of the Governor’s recent announcement reinvesting in Discover New England, the State’s three

CT Rejoins Discover New England G
Tourism Regions announced they will participate in Discover New England’s Annual Summit and International Marketplace on April 4-6 in Washington, New Hampshire.
The three offices – the
Western Regional Tourism District, Central Regional Tourism District, and Eastern Regional Tourism District – will join efforts to host an interactive booth and be a participating sponsor at Discover New England’s major annual marketing event.
Governor Dannel P. Malloy recently announced that CT rejoined Discover New England which works to raise international consumer, travel trade, and media awareness of New England as a memorable, high-quality, four-season destination.
At the Summit, CTs Regions will meet with international tour operators and travel agents and international press from the U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, and other European countries to tout CT’s many attractions. The presence of the State’s Tourism leaders will ensure that CT and the many tourism industry businesses represented by the three regions can deliver their marketing messages directly to key decision-makers. Over the past few years, CT
has been losing market share in the very lucrative market of international visitors. While the State Tourism Office has been unable to promote CT as a destination to these travelers, the State Regional Tourism Districts have been working together to maintain CT’s presence. In rejoining the Discover New England organization, the Regional Districts and the State will once again be able to immediately call on their support to encourage foreign visitors to choose CT as a destination. CT Tourism Regions have a long track record of representing CT’s hotels and attractions at the Discover New England Summit and International Marketplace as well as at the U.S. Travel Association’s Annual Pow Wow, one of the biggest international marketplaces in the world To post your comments, visit:
