My Mum. Bless her.

My Mum rang me on the mobile phone the other day. I always try to answer as it could be an emergency. She asked me what I was doing at the weekend.

Dad, I’ve just been on Wilkipedia, and I’ve discovered that Concorde used to fly at twice the speed of sound. In that case, how did they manage to speak to Air Traffic Control? Well son, in those days Air Traffic Control was staffed by women, and as you’ll painfully discover in later life, they’ve got the amazing ability to answer a question before it’s even been asked.

Justin Moorhouse.

I said I couldn't talk as I was on the mobile phone and I was driving. She then came out with an all time classic.. “ Oh, well if I’d known you were on the phone I wouldn’t have rung.”

Two women called at my door and asked what bread I ate, when I said white; they gave me a long lecture on the benefits of brown bread. I think they were the Hovis Witnesses.

British Army General, founder of the Boy Scouts Movement in 1907. Scouting quickly spread to other nations, and Baden-Powell would retire from the Army in 1910, to devote himself to being the "Chief Scout of the World." His original book, "Scouting for Boys," is a combination of his philosophy of life and of his experiences in the Army, and contains many tips about living outdoors that he learned from native tribesmen. Although his book is heavily tailored on his wartime African experiences, Baden-Powell organized the Scouts to be scouts in peacetime, to learn those life skills that would enable teenagers to grow into worthwhile men and women and a credit to their society, no matter what their occupation would become.
