A recently completed project by Richard N. Best Associates Associates for Parkway Corporation and the Hyatt at The Bellevue posed many challenges that were overcome by using Federal APD ScanNet and SST equipment. Issues included the hotel’s valet system, customer billing from the front desk, tighter audit controls and lower operating costs.

The new J.W. Marriott Hotel Complex in Indianapolis consists of four hotels (Fairfield, Springhill Suites, Courtyard, and Tower) which share one underground parking garage. The automated PARCS sys- tem is Amano-McGann, utilizing Pay-on-Foot Stations in the lobbies, validated coupons from merchants, Hotel guest parking system, and Valet system. Towne Park is the parking operator.

This garage has Federal APD equipment with one Pay-On-Foot station – the new Universal Pay Station – in the garage. It also has two exit lanes with cashier booths and fee computers, that also have Universal One Credit Card Exit Verifiers for after hours. They also have one auto- mated exit lane that does not have a cashier booth. That lane gets the most usage, as the college students are drawn to the automation ver- sus the cashiered lanes. It was pointed out that the students prefer the automated lanes, as he had hoped in the planning. The automated equipment is working, and getting the usage that UNT had hoped.
