NBES celebrates arrival of fall Weaverville

ALL ROLLED INTO ONE

by Michael Creasman, CFP

Retirees, em-

ployees facing layoffs, and work- ers

switching

jobs must make the decision of

whether to leave their retirement funds with their old employer or move them to an IRA. Usually, it makes sense for retirees and job-changers to roll their 401(k)s into a traditional or Roth IRA because they offer more investment choices than company plans. Tese ac- counts also provide the flexibility of al- lowing contributors to take their mon- ey out. Restrictions on 401(k) plans vary, with some limiting the frequency on withdrawals and others setting all- or-nothing restrictions. For simplicity’s sake, a good argument can be made for rolling all 401(k) accounts into a single IRA, which makes it easier to monitor the investments, set appropriate asset allocations, and rebalance. HINT: Workers who retire or get

laid off between the ages of 55 and 59.5 can take penalty-free withdrawals from their 401(k)s. Otherwise, if they roll their money into an IRA, they must wait until age 59.5 to withdraw without penalty. Changing or leaving a job requires

several adjustments, including a new lifestyle and new colleagues and proj- ects. In the middle of all this change, make sure your 401(k) moves with you. At CREASMAN 401(k) PLAN ADVISOR, INC., we consider finan- cial planning a comprehensive, ongo- ing process that involves managing all areas of a client’s finances – from start- ing their career, to changing careers, to retiring. Diversification and your temperament for risk are at the center of all investment plans. Please call us at 828-253-7231 to schedule a consul- tation.
