Cowgirl News with Sherri Mell-Torres

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Braylin Moltz,

the Tejas Rodeo Year End Barrel Racing Cham-

pion, 2010 with her beautiful new saddle.

Mike Torres with wife,

Sherri Mell and Yancy James 2010 Tejas

Rodeo Finals Break A Way Champion.

Hard to believe that another NFR has

come and gone already!Hope you got to go to Vegas to enjoy some of the excitement. The Tejas Open Pro Rodeo in Bulverde,

Texas, finished up theirFinals. Iwas fortunate enough to compete in it this year finishing 3rd for the year in theBreakAWayRoping. Yancy James, manager and announcer of

Tejas Rodeo looked at me when I thought it wasmy turn to rope during theFinal perform- ance and I asked him if it was my turn. He said, “Come on”motioningme to followhim. I asked again if it was my turn to rope and I was headed for the box. He said, “Just a minute, come on.” He then introducedme leadingme in front

of the audience. I amcomfortable and used to the announcer talking aboutmewhile I amin the box but being called upwithoutmy know- ing and rightwhen itwasmy turn to rope can put a test to evenmy wits!Withmy husband behind the calf in the chute, I took my warm up swings going into the box, backed up and nodded. I was blessed with a quick run and ended up winning the Finals and a beautiful BobBerg buckle! Tejas also gives saddles to the Year End Champions of each event. This year the

Champions were: Erica Meche – Break A Way Roping, Braylin Moltz – Barrel Racing, Ralph Benson – Bull Riding, Jon Stafford – Heading, Larry Ham- mon – Heeling and Cole Moody – Tie Down Calf Roping. If you have never been to the Tejas Rodeo, you need to come out for the 2011 year. The arena and stands are covered; they have a mechanical bucking bull for en- tertainment after the rodeo along with a live band each Saturday night for a dance. They have a full bar and lots to eat including steak, hot dogs, sausage, hamburgers and baked items. This coming year, I hear they will even have an enclosed restaurant. The name of the location is Cibolo Livery and it is located on Bulverde Road. There is something for everyone there. During the NFR in Vegas, I signed auto-

graphs in the Appaloosa Booth as well as the WPRA booth again. It is always a lot of fun. Below is a photo in the Appaloosa Booth with Gary Connally, who does the booth for the ApHC. A big thank you goes out to Gary and his wife, Niece, for doing this

for several years now. God Bless you all and your families for a

wonderful New Year and I hope to see you at some functions. The Stock Shows are just around the corner! R.O.P.E.R. (Riding Opportunities Pro-

moting Exceptional Riders) are practicing on Wednesday evenings. We would like to thank the volunteers who come out to assist the rid- ers and take part in the ROPER activities. This past year, we were fortunate to have assistance with hay. Collis Markt of Von Ormy donated round bales from his own farm. Thank you so much! When he gave them to us, he said, “Any- thing for the Chil- dren!” Collis is in his 80’s and still runs the farm baling hay! If you would like

cooperation with Numen Communica- tions, has re- leased the first version of the new 2011 USDF Intro- ductory tests in a down- l o a d a b l e iPhone appli- cation. Each test allows the user to read the test instructions

along with the judging criteria; review dressage arena di- agrams that animate through the movements within a test; play and record your own readings of the test that are per- fectly timed for an individual horse and the arena in which you are practicing; reference the official USDF dressage test sheet; review the USDF Pyramid of Train- ing; and keep up-to-date on the latest in dressage com- petition through the USDF news feed. The iPhone application has been developed for

USDF Introductory Level Test A, USDF Introductory Level Test B, and USDF Intro-
