Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Donates 2010 Proceeds

Pin Oak Charity Horse Show volunteers and Rick Terry, executive vice

president of the show’s title sponsor BBVA Compass, donned hardhats for an advance tour of the new Texas Children's Hospital West Campus. The group was there to present a $50,000 donation to fund the cancer center in- fusion waiting area, which will be named after the 66-year-old charity horse show. The gift was received by Dr. Charles Hankins, chief medical officer for Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus. Along with the check, Pin Oak donated two equestrian paintings that will hang in the waiting area, and plans to provide books for the patient library. "Pin Oak has been involved with Texas Children's Hospital since 1948

when the show began raising money to build the original facility that opened in 1954," says Pin Oak President Lynn Walsh. "Now, a brand-new genera- tion of Pin Oak riders and sponsors are working to build the West Campus, which is very close to our show location at Great Southwest Equestrian Center on Mason Road." Pin Oak made a commitment to donate $300,000 to Texas Children's

West Campus over five years. This donation puts the show within $65,000 of that goal. West Campus, Texas Children’s first community hospital, is lo- cated on 55 acres at Interstate 10 and Barker Cypress. The outpatient facil- ity is scheduled to open in December 2010, offering a comprehensive array of pediatric sub-specialty services. The inpatient facility and 24/7 dedicated pediatric emergency center are slated to open in spring 2011 and will include surgical suites, 48 intermediate and acute-care patient beds, advanced im- aging services including MRI and CT scans, and a neurophysiology sleep laboratory. Show dates are March 23 - April 5. Info available at pinoak.org. w

with the colt again. “He was coming along fast enough that I thought we could go to the ASHA Futurity. I day worked on him some, and worked on the dry work and cow work at the house. He came along really fast. He’s probably only had about 10 months of riding on him.” Haneline said the colt is a big stopper and very cowy.

He believes the horse is an open caliber horse, and plans to show Peppy Silver Cat his four-year-old year in some reined cow horse events, stock horse shows and ranch horse shows. Ultimately, the goal is for Peppy Silver Cat to be Rhodes’ next Non Pro horse as a five-year-old. The Futurity Reserve Championship went to Soni-

talenas Royal, ridden by Florent Delesque, earning $1,926.75. Third place went to Surely Gotta Play and Mozaun McKibben, with a check of $1,464.75. Non Pro and Collegiate winners were also recog-

nized. They competed with the open riders, earning jack- pot money as part of the open competition. But they were also presented special Non Pro and Collegiate Futurity awards. The Non Pro Futurity winner was Fresnos Plain

Peppy and Debby Sanguinetti, earning $1,182.75 in jack- pot winnings, plus a $1,000 bonus for being the top Non Pro rider. The Collegiate Futurity Champion was CR

fidence of a well-trained unit, took command of the inter- nationally packed arena. In classy black and white costumes they transported the audience back in time to the nostalgic ‘big band era’ with their equestrian rendition of ‘New York,

New York’. Horse enthusiasts from all over the world praised them for their technical maneuvers, which they executed with military precision. When the dust finally settled and the votes were tallied the Rebel Riders emerged the victors of the friendly “Battle of the Border!” making them the Drill Team Champions of the 2010 AQHA World Show. The Rebel Riders would like to thank the AQHA

Committee for esteeming them worthy to compete in such an exclusive arena of champions. They consider it an honor not only to be invited, but also to ride against the renowned Oklahoma “Freedom Riders.” The Freedom Riders showed great kindness and real southern hospital- ity to the Rebel Riders, hosting them for lunch and pro- viding gifts for the team members. Their sportsmanship was greatly appreciated by the Rebel Riders making it a memorable trip for them. They would also like to thank the many faithful sup-

porters, who through the years have invested their hearts, their time, and their finances to promote youth equestrian sports. It is because of your commitment to the sport that their youth have been able to accomplish what others only dream about! The team was especially honored that Dr. Dennis

Sigler, Extension Horse Specialist from Texas A&M and Ron Holcomb, Liberty County Extension Agent traveled to Oklahoma City to support the team. The Rebel Riders ride under the direction of head

drill master, Tommy Small and drill masters Tammie Turner and Rex Robertson. The AQHA World Champion riders are Lauren Barham, Taylor Copenhaver, Jodee Crane, Melissa Crane, Katy Curry, Emalee Diehl, Hannah Duty, Harley Gray, Kacie Hughes, Kerry Jamison, Paula Miller, Chelsea Robertson, Amber Slater, Bobbie Turner, Jenna Turner, Kylie Turner, and alternate, Lauren Mohn.
