Spiritual Awakenings
meditation, chant and visualization, creates a bridge between our different levels of awareness: conscious- ness and superconsciousness; mankind and Divine; physical and spiritual. Self-knowledge is gained through personality systems such as the Enneagram, continual meditation, and self-examination. From the outside, systems like magic, alchemy and Tarot look like fortune-telling or superstition; but, as Amy ex- plains, the deeper teachings are “powerful, spiritual practices that teach us about the multi-dimensional
Universe and the Oneness of Being.” Side benefits of serious study into realms like these are a freer life, release from constriction and pain, an increased psy- chic sensitivity and a higher degree of control over our lives. “These traditions are a chestful of treasures and we want to make sure they
get passed down to the next generation,” Carol says. “We’re another link in the chain,” adds Amy. “This path has been hidden for centuries; but today it is ac- cessible to serious students.” Tucson now has its first Western Mystery Tradition School, and it’s piled high with detailed maps and compasses to reveal to you the ancient links along the “Golden Chain.” The Desert Mystery School invites Tucsonans to join the Mystery School experience. Upcoming single-day workshops are “Women’s Mysteries: Maiden, Mother, Crone,” which will be taught by Carol on Jan. 19. This class delves into archetypes that describe women’s lives. Its intent is to give women strength and understanding by helping them contact these archetypes through reflection, meditation and magical journaling. “Make a Talisman for Your 2011 Goal,” taught by Carol and Amy, on Jan. 22, focuses on creating energetic “batter- ies” called talismans. The energy to help make your goals a reality comes from esoteric symbols within the Astrological and Magical Traditions, from particular names of power, and, of course, from your own focused intentions and desires. “Enneagram Level 1” will be taught by Erlina on Jan. 29 as an introduction to the Enneagram personality system and its nine, distinct patterns of thinking, feeling and acting as explicit perceptual filters. “Enneagram Level 2” will be held on March 5. In February, the Desert Mystery School will begin a nine-week, integrated
course on how to be centered and grounded in the place where we live. “The Power of Earth Practicum” will be limited to just 10 students in order to main- tain the personal and interactive experience required for deep and transfor- mative learning. “This course will present the symbols and teachings of the Western Mystery Tradition related to the Earth,” says Carol. “It will give people a deeper experience when relating to Earth, plants and animals in an energetic way, and will help people integrate their spirituality into their everyday lives.” Erlina plans to use her deep understanding of the Enneagram to “show the stu- dents what gets in their way.” This intensive practicum will be filled with magic, symbolism, exercises and theory, but it’s “not going to be like a Harry Potter school,” laughs Carol. Amy adds, “It’s designed to be a total experience, inte- grating the three legs of symbols, practices and self-knowledge.” “The Power of Earth Practicum” will run from Feb. 2nd to March 30th on consecutive Wednes- day afternoons at Unity of Tucson on Camino Blanco.
