Hiking: Have I mentioned the five local mountain ranges? There is a plethora of hiking opportunities for every skill level, no matter which area of town you


live in. Hiking can be one of the most pleasurable ways to connect with the natural world while building strength, stamina, and physical health. Many websites, such as visittucson.org, pro- vide you with information about local trails and conditions.


Swimming: I know, I know, we are land-locked


and live in the desert, but many out- door public swimming pools in town offer year-round hours, lap swimming, and water fitness programs. I’ll never forget the smile on my mother’s face (she was visiting from northern Idaho in February) as she participated in an outdoor aqua-fitness class. That grin said, “Wait’ll the folks back home hear what I did today!” For a list of local pools with year-round accessibil- ity, visit cms3.tucsonaz.gov.


Outdoor Fitness Programs: If you need a little extra motivation to help get you moving and get you outside, take advantage of Tucson’s many out- door fitness classes, personal trainers, and boot camps. There are many reasons to take


your workout outside – especially in a climate like ours. The activity doesn’t matter…simply choose something you enjoy and let nature do the rest!
