ECHO Offers Informative Farm Tours

tive look at worldwide, natural farm- ing ini t ia- tives at the Educational Concerns for Hunger Or- ganizat ion (ECHO), in North Fort Myer s . I t s 90-minute Global Farm Tours take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Tuesdays thru Fri- days, and 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Six separate settings include demon-
strations of techniques useful to farmers and urban gardeners in Southwest Florida and developing countries. Visitors can see biogas (turning cow manure into gas for cooking and lighting), a sawdust cooker, rooftop gardening and a simple solar food dryer; taste various leaves and berries in rain forest habitats; observe farm animals such as tropical sheep, goats, turken chickens, ducks, tilapia and rabbits; view a simulated Haitian school; and examine one of the largest collec- tions of tropical food plants in Florida. Founded in the late 1970s, ECHO
is a global Christian organization that equips people with agricultural resources and skills to reduce hunger and improve the lives of the poor that has been providing sustainable hunger solutions since 1981.
