HOTEL REVIEW
Interiors crafted Italian leather and wenge detailed furniture and light fittings. The design trick with the curved walkways to the remaining four floors of rooms was to give them a muted colour scheme, introducing a brightly coloured, overscaled leaf design carpet that relies on the colours and shapes interacting within the space. Specially commissioned themed photographs of Chester by Stephen Todd adorn the walls in simple chunky black frames. Eight ‘Enviable’ Rooms are coloured pastel lemon or blue with taupe details set against random oiled oak boarding with simple plain linen curtains. The remaining rooms have simple but bold colour schemes – some with balconies, some with quirky shapes but all containing a sophisticated black and white bathroom design, using graphite riven tiles against black glass lined showers with chrome details, plus contrasting white Catalano sanitaryware. Back at ground floor level, the hotel entrance is demarked by an orange LED illuminated goalpost frame, the stepped ceiling to the entrance glowing deliberately warm against the black glass frontage. Inside,
a palette of cream walls and limestone flooring contrasts with bespoke walnut and black glass detailed joinery items.
Large black and white murals of Ozzy
Osbourne, Hugh Grant, Elton John and Bob Geldof line the walls of the all day piazza MC Café Bar & Grill, which has already proved a big hit with racegoers due to its cocooned location, al fresco seating, and direct access link to the racecourse.
ABode Chester hopes to capitalise on Chester’s booming visitor economy. “Chester is brimming over with tourist offerings and ABode Chester will allow visitors from all over the world to enjoy the city while making their base at a hotel which suits their lifestyle. The hotel’s fine food offerings will also make a great addition to the culinary landscape of the city and our restaurant and Champagne Bar will provide some of the best views in the city, overlooking the racecourse and Cathedral,” says Nick Halliday, Managing Director of ABode.
Next on the agenda is a hotel in Salisbury,
where Abode is planning the restoration of an historic Georgian hotel, extended with a newbuild element.
