The Rotary Club of Hornchurch & Upminster has for many years aimed to help our community, and that especially means the schools of Hornchurch and Upminster.

We were very pleased to support Branfil Jun- ior School's Grounds Project. The project aims to improve the school's environment, by provid- ing new and imaginative places for learning and to give the children a new stimulating

Supporting this new venture at Branfil Junior school also gave us the opportunity to remember and celebrate the life of Don Gregson as Teacher Headmaster and Rotarian

Don, as we all called him, came to Upminster in 1972 and was head teacher at Branfil Junior for twenty-two years - a job he really loved. At the same time he also joined our Rotary Club and was always a vital member, joining in all our many activities. He was our honorary Treas- urer for sixteen years until shortly before his death earlier this year. It gave us great pleasure to dedicate a plaque celebrating both the Ground Project and Don himself, President Margaret also presented the School with a cheque for £500 - the contribution by the Rotary Club of Hornchurch & Upminster goes towards the School's excellent Grounds Project.

Some of the money we presented to the school was used to buy bulbs which the children planted in the very impressive garden. George could not have picked a better time in March 2008 to visit as they were in full bloom. hope you agree, money well spent.

Mrs Judith Hall Acting Head of Branfil School proudly shows off the Trim Trail in the field behind the school. Unfortu- nately she declined to demonstrate her climbing skills!
