DAVE WOOLLEY WINTER feels like eternity Fall: the saddest time of the year for
old car owners. It’s time to put the old beauties to bed for the winter. For people who want to buy an
old classic car, however, the time is also never better. A lot of classic cars hit the market for sale because people don’t want to pay winter storage fees, insurance for the winter, etc. And then they look for something new in the spring. The winter is long without our
beauties, and we all look forward to the Barrett Jackson Auction in January as the first taste of what we love best. The Barrett Jackson Auction has
done wonders for old car enthusiasts when they see so many beautiful cars selling for enormous amounts of money. But it also sets unrealistic prices for
average cars. The auction we watch on television is conducted in the main tent where we see special cars with matching numbers, unbelievable paint jobs, and off-frame restorations. But there are several smaller auctions being conducted throughout the property where less- than-perfect cars are auctioned off. The money generated is incredible. Rumour has it that there’s an eight per cent charge to buyers and eight per cent charge to sellers. Classic Cars has become quite an
industry all over North America, and of course here in the Ottawa and the surrounding area. Just last week I was out at Fireball
Transmissions in Williamsburg. Many consider Doug Miller and his staff to
