The Fall season is upon us, and if you’re a Land Rover owner, this is Prime Time, Baby!
Sitting around the family dinner table with a nice English beer (oh, how I love this assignment) I recently had the pleasure of speaking to David Pell, Secretary-Trea- surer of the Ottawa Valley Land Rovers Club (OVLR).
The OVLR began in 1982 and has a current membership of 150 fun-loving Land Rover owners. A monthly newslet- ter along with e-mail keeps them all well informed of the events throughout the year. (A quick visit to their website
www.ovlr.org will provide you with all the information you need to join.) The OVLR offers a wide variety of benefits from social networking to amaz- ing off-road driving experiences. David stressed that the club wants its members to enjoy their Land Rover. They were meant to be driven in a safe and enjoyable en-

vironment. The club has people from all walks of life who are very much in love with the outdoors, camping and family events. Within the club, he explained, there are two groups of owners: the “leafers” and the “coilers”. (You gotta love the nicknames.) The “leafers” are owners of the Clas- sic Land Rover (think Pan African Safari). They are an excellent source of information and point the members in the right direc- tion when preserving and restoring their classics to Concours level standards. The “coilers” are owners of Range Rovers, Discovery, Defender (think soccer Mom and weekend warrior Dad). Instead of the mini van, this family has opted for a more versatile vehicle that keeps both own- ers happy. In April, the gang gets together for the Maple Syrup Rally, French toast breakfast, socializing and some off-road fun.
