Leicester Jeff’s Auto Sales celebrates 23 years

By Catherine Hunter In the back corner of Jeff

Caldwell’s office is a photo al- bum full of 23 years of memo- ries. Caldwell and his father, Ted

Caldwell, first opened Jeff’s Auto Sales in September 1987. Te picture album shows the

first four trucks they had for sale when they opened in their old location across the highway. Caldwell said today they have

more than 100 cars and trucks on the lot. In 1987 Caldwell was working

for Crown Aluminum when his father bought a couple of trucks. “I cleaned them up and took them to the car sale,” Caldwell

said. “From then on I knew what I wanted to do.” Caldwell has loved working

with cars all his life and even got into racing for several years. He helped Ronnie Silver of Silver’s Auto Service with his race cars for

years and drove at speedways in Asheville and Hickory from 1992 to 1999. Caldwell’s photo album also in-

cludes pictures of employees, the sale of their first truck, his fam- ily, the construction of their cur- rent building and much more. “I didn’t realize when I kept these [photos] I’d be really glad later,” he said. Caldwell said his business has

always offered “buy here, pay here” financing with low down payments and low monthly pay- ments. He has continued that tra- dition throughout the years which brings in customers from as far away as Marion and Bryson City. “We specialize in cars for less

than $10,000.” Caldwell said. Today Caldwell has five employ-

ees, most of them from the Leic- ester area. His father still works with him picking up and hauling cars. Tey moved to their current location at 3176 New Leicester Highway in 2001 and the lot is open from 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday. Caldwell can be reached at 683-

an average of 58% of cats and 45% of dogs are classified as overweight or obese. Having even a few extra pounds can be dangerous to your pet’s health. It can put them at risk for diabetes, heart disease and many other potentially life threatening diseases. A recent study has revealed that overweight dogs live an average of 2.1 years less than lean dogs. Your veterinarian can help you to deter- mine whether your pet is overweight or obese and help you to get them to a healthy weight.
