Erwin HS Erwin dominates against Cougars

past the Mountain Heritage Cou- gars on Friday (Sept. 17) as they took a 42-20 win. Te Warriors (4-1) have scored
42 points in each of their victories this season. Toppling the previously un-
defeated Cougars (3-1), who ad- vanced to the NCHSAA Class 2-A state championship game last year, primed the Warriors for the rigors of the Mountain Athletic Confer- ence. Quarterback Garrett Brown put
the Warriors on the board early with a 28-yard pass to Shaquan Curenton. Brown and Curenton each added scores on individual runs as the Erwin defense pitched a shutout for much of the first half, giving the Warriors a 21-0 edge late into the second quarter. Mountain Heritage put a score on the board with a 30-yard pass

Te quarterback found Curenton on a 3-yard touchdown pass, and Brown soon added another touch- down scramble of his own, putting the Warriors ahead 35-6. Te Warriors’ Trey Clark put the
last score of the night up for Er- win with a 5-yard touchdown run.
Mountain Heritage added two late touchdowns for the final score. Erwin moves on to one of its
biggest games of the year as the Warriors travel to face reigning NCHSAA Class 4-A champion Reynolds on Friday (Sept. 24). Kick-off is set for 7:30 pm.
