squads. She owns a 4.75 GPA and hopes
to study nutrition next year at col- lege. She may pursue running in college.
Wilderness designation discussion A discussion about obtaining a wilderness designation for more than
2,000 acres of the Pisgah National Forest near Craggy Gardens will be held at 7 pm on Monday (Sept. 13) at the Big Ivy Community Center. Tis 2,380-acre tract of land is without roads and has been a wilderness
study area since 1984. Te center hopes to have forest officials discuss the proposal, and the public is welcomed to give feedback.
Free organist concert Te Weaverville Music Study Club will present a free program by
organist Scott Coates at 7 pm on Sept. 17 at the sanctuary at First Baptist Church, Weaverville. Coates grew up in Weaverville and performed often for the Weav-
erville Music Club during his youth.† He is a former recipient of the club’s music scholarship. He graduated from Asbury College with a degree in music and
media communications. He currently serves as organist at Skyland United Methodist Church and is a member of the Asheville Sym- phony Chorus. For additional information, call Harriet Burnette at 645-5798.

Flea market, barbecue
Te North Buncombe Black-
Hawk Band will hold its annual flea market and barbecue Sat- urday (Sept. 11) at the Weaver- ville United Methodist Church Youth Ministry building on Main Street in Weaverville. Te flea market will be held from 7:30 am until noon. Te barbe- cue will be held from 5 pm - 7 pm with a short concert by the band following the meal.
Yard sale A sidewalk yard sale will be held
from 8 am to noon on Saturday (Sept. 11) at the Mars Hill United Methodist Church on South Main Street.
