Gerald D. Roberts Alexander - Gerald D. Roberts, age
49, of 485 Martin Candler Rd. went to be with his Lord and his son, Brian, Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010. Gerald was
born Aug. 24, 1961, in Bun- combe County where he had lived all of his life. He was formerly em- ployed at Termo Fisher Scientific.
He enjoyed spending time with his son fishing, Asheville Tourist ballgames, and fireworks. He was a member at Ce- dar Hill Baptist Church. Gerald was a son of L.A. and Betty Revis Roberts of Alexander. Surviving in addition to his parents
are his wife of 27 years, Sandra Shel- ton Roberts; son, Calvin Lee Roberts at home; sisters, Rita Ann Roberts of Alexander, Linda Annette Pike of Leicester, and Teresa Faye Roberts of Alexander; brother, Roger Dale Rob- erts of Alexander; and his beloved dog, Littlebit. His funeral service was held at 2:30
p.m., Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, in Cedar Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roy McPeters and the Rev. Allen Roberts officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Te family received friends from 6
pm to 8 pm on Tursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body re- mained until placed in the church one hour prior to the service. At other times, the family was at the

Esther Mae Rice Gosnell Marshall - Esther Mae Rice Gosnell,
91, of 30 Chandler Cove Road, passed away Tursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at John F. Keever Solace Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Madi- son County and the daughter of the late Murphy and Sophia Rice. She was also pre- ceded in death by
her husband, Ruben “Rube” Gosnell,; daughter, Glennis Gosnell; son, Ray- mond Gosnell; sister, Selma Chandler and brother, Murphy Rice, Jr. Esther and her husband owned and operated Gosnell Grocery. She was of the Bap- tist faith. Surviving are her son, Kenneth Gos-
nell and wife Oma of Weaverville; sis- ter, Norma Jean Franklin of Marshall; half brother, Wayne Rice of Marshall; grandchildren, Gail English, Wilma Keller and Sandra Metcalf; step grand- daughter, Judy Shelton; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grand-
children and several nieces and neph- ews.

on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service, Mars Hill. Te Rev. Steve Honeycutt and the Rev. Willard Norton officiated. Burial followed in the Gosnell Cemetery. Serving as pall- bearers were: Oscar Wayne Franklin, Ray Metcalf, Marvin English, Garney Wayne Rice, Scotty Shelton and Jerry Gosnell. Sr., 73, of 12 Georgia Hill Dr., passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 after a long illness at the Lau- rels of Summit Ridge. He was a native of Phila- delphia and a son of the late Noble Grant and Myrtle Young. He was a U.S. Army vet- eran and was of
the Baptist faith. Surviving is his wife of 30 years,
Jessie Gentry of the home; daughters, Karen Ann, Dawn, Belinda all of To- ledo, Ohio, Priscilla Sarenius of Mon- roe, Ga. and Carmen Greene of Hot Springs; sons, Donald and Johnny of Toledo Ohio, Robert Lee Young Jr. of Asheville, Vincent Young of Mon- roe, Ga. and Gator Gentry of Beckley, W.Va.; sisters, Minnie Sequin of Toledo, Ohio and Derida LewEllen of Robbins, Tenn.; brother, Noble Grant Young Jr. of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and many grand- children who were the light of his life and several great-grandchildren. Harold W. McDaris Woodfin - Harold W. McDaris, 71,
of 73 Jonestown Road, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010. Mr. McDaris was born Dec. 10, 1938 in Bun- combe County where he had lived all of his life. He served three years in the U.S. Army. A life-long mem- ber of Elkwood United Methodist Church, he served
as the worship director. Harold was a certified nursing assistant working in
nursing homes, including Emerald Ridge Health and Rehabilitation. He enjoyed music, painting, photography and his cats. He was the son of the late Roy C. and Burnice Clinton McDaris. Surviving are his sisters, Irene Mc-
