Award winning photographer begins business in Leicester

pictures for as long as she can remember. Those pictures have been winning awards since she was in middle school. “I’ve always had a camera in
my hand,” Ball said. “Pictures have a lot to say. There’s a story behind every one.” Ball, who grew up in Leicester,
is now turning her love of pho- tography into a business. She of- fers photography for weddings, engagements, graduations, an- niversaries, NBHA, calf roping competitions, birthday parties, family portraits, funerals and many other occasions. Ball’s unique approach is to
take most of the photos out- doors. She travels to sites such as family farms or local historic places to find a good outdoor setting that offers an unusual or memorable backdrop for the photos. Her other specialties in- clude candid shots, especially at weddings. “I like to capture what people
are doing,” said Ball, who also photographs many of the local community events. Ball’s original approach to photography has gained her
much recognition at local and state fairs. She began entering her pictures when she was in the 4-H Club and the Future Farm- ers of America. She continues to do so individually as an adult. This week she is submitting five photos in the N.C. Mountain State Fair. Ball typically submits pho-
tos in the animals, agricultural, people portraits and landscap- ing categories. Horses and fam- ily members are among her fa- vorite subjects. She has always placed in the awards and won “Judges Choice” and “Best of Show” more than a few times. Another unique approach
Ball offers is a photo scrapbook and scrapbook-style invitations. Scrapbook themes include wed- dings, family heritage, anniver- saries, birthdays, kids growing up and much more. “You better love scrapbook-
ing if you’re going to do it,” Ball said. “It takes a lot of time and effort to do it yourself.” Ball adjusts her prices depend-
ing on the travel for a shoot. She also gives her clients their photos on a CD so they own the copyrights. “They don’t have to come
back to me for copies or permis- sion to use their pictures,” Ball
