HEALING ARTS The Very Real Dangers of Constipation By Yakov Koyfman, N.D.

It is unfortunate that many people do not pay much attention to the way their body gets rid of waste. Some even think that having a bowel movement 2-3 times per week is more than enough, and they have abso- lutely nothing to worry about. In reality, irregular bowel movements mean constipation, which can be the begin- ning of many illnesses.

What is constipation?

If your bowels do not move at least daily, it means you are constipated. If you have bowel movements every day or even 2-3 times per day, but the release is difficult, not complete, or small in amount, it is also considered constipation. Sometimes constipation may grow into constant diarrhea. Ideally, a healthy colon should move 2-3 times per day and at least one of the movements has to be a substantial quantity. Some of the common symptoms of constipation include coated tongue, bad breath, bad body and urine odor, foul odor of the stool and gas, headaches, fatigue, bloating, allergies, fre- quent colds, skin problems and sleep disorders.

What is the danger of constipation?

The leftovers of undigested food, which are supposed to be eliminated, stick to the walls of the colon and turn into toxins which leak into the blood and are carried through the entire body, poisoning and weakening its defense mechanism. I believe that up to ninety percent of all serious illnesses, including cancer, begins with constipation! Regulating the function of the colon is a first big step to good health. There are many different reasons for constipation:

1) Genetics. If the parents or even grandparents have the problem, it could be passed on to the children.

2) Stress, depression, and nervousness. These condi- tions can create tension in the muscles of the digestive organs. Tension worsens the function and tone of the digestive muscles and makes them weaker.

3) Diet that does not contain enough fiber and has too many mucus forming products (e.g. dairy, refined flour and sugars, and sweets), can form fecal stones.

4) Dehydration. If you don’t drink enough water and the food you eat is not very juicy (natural, biologically active juices), then the fecal matter also hardens and forms blockages.

5) Parasites. A clogged large intestine is a great envi- ronment for growth of unfriendly bacteria, infections, and worms. Parasites steal nutrients, reproduce and add more toxicity to your digestive organs. When there are too many of them, they form colonies. These colo- nies block the pathway of the small intestine.

6) Weak muscles of the large intestine. The large intes- tine increases in size if it is filled with waste and block- age..Its walls will strech, and muscles can be weakened.

Constipation and women. Reproductive organs are located in the center of the abdomen and very close to the digestive organs. If digestive organs are congested with toxic masses, parasites, viruses, fungus, and other bacteria, these toxins and parasites can penetrate the uterus and ovaries. From there, using the body’s natural channels, they easily travel to the breast. By poisoning these organs with toxicity and suppressing circulation, parasites can contribute to different types of tumors and cancers forming in these organs. If you have been suffering from constipation for a prolonged period of time, it is necessary to seek professional help and expertise. However, it does not exclude your active participation to resolve this problem. Your commitment to a healthy lifestyle is vital. Regular exercise can help, along with the regular consumption of fresh fruits, veg- etables, whole grains, seeds, and nuts.

Here is a helpful recipe:

Cut up parsley, dill, and cilantro, and mix with 1 cup of organic Kefir.

Eat this dish 30 minutes before or instead of breakfast and dinner.

Kefir has friendly bacteria, which is necessary for proper digestion and intestinal health, and greens have many nutrients and amino acids, chlorophyll, and fiber. Healthy living is a wise choice you can make every day.
