allow attendees to discuss their most effective market- ing strategies in video interviews conducted by Fitness Business TV; and “The Group X Gallery, Live at Club Studio,” an exciting group-fitness competition featuring the most innovative group-exercise classes created by some of the top clubs in the nation. The Welcome Reception, a regular crowd

pleaser, will be held offsite at the legendary House of Blues Chicago on Wednesday, October 6. “Given the breadth of programming, new events,

and proven favorites, Club Industry expects to meet or exceed our 2008 and 2009 attendance, which has remained relatively stable, despite the vagaries of the economy,” reports Greenebaum. “Exhibit hall attendance has been strong, and we’re expecting a resurgence in paid conference attendance.” —|

CELEBRATING A FITNESS PIONEER

CI10 will honor Curt Beusman, 79, the founder and president of the Saw Mill Athletic Club in Mt. Kisco, New York, one of the premier fitness facilities in the metropolitan New York City area, with Club Industry magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1971, Beusman launched Saw Mill as a tennis-only club, and, since then, has transformed it into a multipur- pose health and fitness facility that offers, among its many amenities, swimming pools, basketball, racquetball, squash, and group exercise. He also expanded the brand, developing three additional clubs. Beusman has been equally productive on the industry-wide front. He was one of the founders of IHRSA; founded the Greater Westchester Indoor Tennis Associa- tion; served as presi- dent of the National Tennis Association (TCA); and has lectured and consulted interna- tionally on the topic of club management. —|
