1. Bullock’s Bistro in Yellowknife’s Old Town is situated in a 1936 log cabin where you can write or scribble on most everything, expect funky signs, and excellent food. The chef cooks behind the counter, joking with the customers. We had the best fish and chips ever: two large pieces of Slave Lake cod, fresh made fries, and a huge portion of green salad with Renata’s secret dressing.

2. Mom’s Bakery at Lake Laberge, Yukon. On the way to the campground stop for the best cinnamon buns in the world. Tracy uses sourdough starter for these giant buns which she slices lengthwise and grills them with butter. Relax and munch awhile in her little garden.

3. Finney’s Fish and Chips is located in a trailer in a parking lot. Rick pumps out first-rate fish and chips for a reasonable price.

4. At Hay River Saturday Fishermen’s Wharf Market we were one of 16 vendors surrounded by the aroma of seafood cooking while the lake boats docked at the marina. We were introduced to deep fried pickerel fins and found them to be tasty.

5. Tetsa River Outfitters at mile 375 on the Alaska Highway where they are so famous for their cinnamon buns, they’ve been called “The cinnamon bun center of the Galactic Cluster.” Yummy buns served up with humour in a tiny gift shop/café.

6. Moose Creek Lodge, Yukon on the Klondike Highway, serves scrumptious butter tarts topped with ice cream in their log building.

7. Dawson Peaks Resort & RV Park, 12 km east of Teslin. Dave and Carolyn make the best wild rhubarb and bumble berry pies.

8. Dawson City Hotel: Aurora Inn and its restaurant “La Table.” Tourism manager, Peggy, described their steak as “magical.” Deliciously magical, the filet mignon served in a relaxed gourmet setting contrasts the city's wild-west ambiance.

9. Chris and Irvin’s Café , Coleman, Alberta. Come off the highway and the franchise eateries for some home-style cooking. For the best hamburgers with the biggest, best, fresh-cut fries you’ve ever eaten. This is the place to eat.

10. Grand Forks Hotel and Restaurant, Grand Forks, BC. This 1903 hotel is famous for its delicious Russian food, serving up huge portions of Pryahi and Galooptsi.
