EARN GREEN REWARDS

Enjoy a family adventure by walking, riding bikes (extra racks are located at Mer- cato entrances), ride-sharing or taking public transportation to the event. To share a ride, contact PickUpPal.com/pup/group/UGottaGoGreen. If enough people register on the site, it could become a useful way to find rides and create area carpools. To reach RIDESHARE, call 1-866-585-RIDE or visit CommuterServices. com. The CAT transit bus stops right at Mercato; for the route and schedule, visit CollierGov.net/Index.aspx?page=2522.

Using green transportation is a great way to try out more eco-friendly choices, create new memories with the kids and earn green rewards. Rewards can also be earned by bringing recyclables, participating in activities at the event, purchasing green products, signing up for environmental actions, or making a commitment to participate in the community-wide Mangrove Tree Planting (date to be deter- mined) or No-Impact Challenge Week, beginning November 1.

DONATE & RECYCLE In the east parking lot, Adera Onsite Security Shredding (Adera.us) will offer free onsite shredding. Leave old electronics of any shape and size in their e-waste truck. Promoting Interaction and Information

“Extravaganza partygoers who boldly wish to capture the attention of onlook- ers can step up to the Eco-Speakers Soapbox and speak out about their environmental concerns or voice their intention regarding a future eco-ac- tion,” says team member Ann Smith, who speculates that individuals with future intentions might be more apt to follow through if they declare them to an audience.

Event exhibitor Marie Barnett, an environmental architect and owner of Barnett Design Studio, is excited about introducing a new audience to the latest information on how federal programs and county stimulus funds can help homeowners supplement the cost of green retrofits for their homes and earn green rewards. “We want to talk with owners of homes built in the 1950s to 1970s,” enthuses Barnett, “be- cause stimulus money available now can supplement the cost of retrofits that will significantly reduce their energy use and electric bill.”

Committee member Kristina Isen- berg has been working to build aware- ness of Florida’s status as a “Right to Dry” state. She was overjoyed to have the opportunity to spread the word at The Mercato. “Few mothers in Collier County are aware that homeowners associations cannot interfere with their right to dry their baby’s clothes and dia- pers on a clothesline,” says the mother of four, who sells a line of cloth dia- pers. To generate interest in her aware- ness-building campaign, which runs beyond the 10/10/10 event, Isenberg designed a Creative Clothesline Photo Contest and will post any pictures sub- mitted on her Neapolitan Line website.
