RAF YOUTH SUPPORT PROGRAMME ROLLS ON T

he RAF Benevolent Fund’s Youth Support Programme is moving on a pace with the opening of new youth facilities for families at Wittering. The facilities include a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), two play parks and a

special youth shelter and have been made available to non- Service children in the nearby village as well as to children from RAF families.

The Wittering project is part of a broader £10m Youth Support Programme the RAFBF is rolling out across the UK in 2010. The project is part of the Fund’s commitment to relieving stress on RAF

families wherever possible. In addition the programme includes the provision of a dedicated youth worker who should be in place for the new school year in September.

This type of Youth facility will open at 15 more RAF stations in 2010, with more following in 2011. A Multi Use Games Area has already been opened by Her Majesty the Queen at RAF Marham.

Air Vice Marshal Nick Kurth, Chief of Support Staff at HQ Air Command, who opened the facility at Wittering said:

“I am delighted to be here to open this play area. It will provide

great facilities for young families in a place where it’s clearly needed and it’s been good to see the children enjoying using it.”

Geoff Ware, Regional Director for the RAF Benevolent Fund said: “We are tremendously pleased to launch these new facilities at

RAF Wittering. We know from our consultations with RAF stations across the UK that this project is an effective, practical way in which the RAF Benevolent Fund can help relieve stress on RAF families, giving young people safe and modern facilities to enjoy on station. It’s also tremendous to help engage with the local community by making these facilities accessible to all. I’m sure it will be very well used.”

All the facilities have been funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF). To find out more about the RAF Benevolent Fund and its work go to www.rafbf.org.uk
