About Conservation Volunteers

Conservation Volunteers recruits and manages teams of volunteers from Australia, New Zealand and around the world to work on important environmental and wildlife conservation projects.

Founded in 1982 in Ballarat, Victoria as the Australian Trust for Conservation Volunteers, our non-profi t organisation has grown to become the largest practical conservation organisation in Australasia with offi ces in most capital cities and many regional centres across Australia and New Zealand.

Each year Conservation Volunteers completes more than 2000 conservation projects lasting anywhere from one day to many months, resulting in positive environmental outcomes, increased community participation, valuable conservation skills and awareness. Through partnerships with various types of landholders, we assist in urban, regional and remote projects including tree planting; seed collection; endangered species protection; weed control; fl ora and fauna surveys; walking track construction; fencing and environmental monitoring.

Our expertise in managing volunteer involvement in conservation projects is widely recognised. In partnership with the Australian Commonwealth Government, we deliver programs such as National Green Jobs Corps, helping young people to gain valuable skills in conservation, leadership and team work. We also manage projects and land in partnership with many parks agencies, and have strong working relationships with many other environmental and land care groups.

We’re proud of our achievements so far, in fact we’ve planted more than 14 million trees since our organisation began. In 2009, community involvement totalled 100,000 volunteer days contributing more than $15 million of practical assistance to the preservation of the Australian and New Zealand environments. We’ve also been recognised by many awards including the United Nations Environment Program - the Global 500 Honour Roll for Environmental Achievement.

Even though we’ve won a lot of awards, we think our most important achievement is giving ordinary people the chance to connect with the environment. So if you’d like to get involved and make a diff erence, then get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
