Overseas Experiences
For over 20 years, Conservation Volunteers has exchanged volunteers with other international conservation organisations. Today, there are more options than ever before to spend up to four weeks volunteering overseas and making a diff erence on your travels. Assist in wildlife rehabilitation and research in South Africa, help to save endangered turtles in Costa Rica, visit historical mountain villages and assist in conservation in Japan or experience the dramatic atmosphere of Anzac Cove in Gallipoli – plus many more amazing experiences. FEATURE PROJECT - Gallipoli, Turkey
For many Australians and New Zealanders, Anzac Cove at Gallipoli is the ultimate pilgrimage site. With the increasing number of people attending the Anzac Day commemorations, there are many logistical and management issues that arise. Our teams assist staff from the Department of Veterans Aff airs (and its contractors) in the preparation and staging of the commemorative services. Volunteers assist with site preparation and crowd management such as ushering, guiding, providing information etc. We are involved in the Dawn Service near Anzac Cove, the Australian service at Lone Pine and the New Zealand service at Chunuk Bair. Volunteers need to be willing to commit to a very long, cold night but most fi nd the experience unforgettable! All tasks undertaken by the volunteers are in accordance with the commemorative services management plan developed by New Zealand and Australian Veteran’s Aff airs. In addition, the group will also visit other important historical sites, to get a greater sense and appreciation of the Anzac involvement in Turkey. An opportunity of a lifetime!
