“The most important changes that have come about for me since my time with Green Gym would have to be getting my confidence back and finding myself again. I have made some great friends and it feels really good to be a part of something with great purpose. I have become fitter and healthier and love the company around me and having fun.”
Casey, 29, Victoria – Green Gym Volunteer
Government Partnerships
Conservation Volunteers has a long history of working in partnership with all levels of government to deliver a range of conservation and community based programs. Following are some of the initiatives that we are currently involved in.
Youth Training Programs
We have managed the involvement of over 10,000 young people in a range of Government initiatives for youth development and environmental training. Programs such as Green Corps, SA Youth Conservation Corps, Green Army and National Green Jobs Corps provide young people with not only the opportunity to volunteer their time to conserve, preserve and restore our natural environment and cultural heritage, but also benefi t from accredited training.
Volunteer Interpreter Program
Tidbinbilla is a stunning nature reserve south of Canberra that is home to a vast array of native wildlife. Based in the Tidbinbilla Visitor Centre, Conservation Volunteers manages the Volunteer Interpreter Program on behalf of the Australian Capital Territory Government. Interpreters are trained to provide information at the visitor centre and to help visitors better understand the local environment.
Green Gym
The Green Gym Program is a pilot program run in conjunction with the Victorian State Government through the Go for your Life campaign. Green Gym involves the community in a range of enjoyable gardening and conservation activities and has been shown to result in a positive benefi t to the health and well being of participants.
