Premier Show for Ornamental Horticulture In this, our inaugural Four Oaks Preview, we focus on a wide range of exhibitors and their product news. This premier plant show on September 7-8 is the 40th since its modest launch in 1971. We will talk to organiser Pat Coutts in our Four Oaks Digest report in the next issue. Her reflections of 2010 and the milestones of the past 40 events will make inter- esting reading as she looks ahead to the 40th Anniversary in 2011. Members of the Retail Plants & Shrubs team will be in evidence during the event and we look forward to speaking with as many of the exhibitors as possible!

nurseries. Cistus x hybridus ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ is featured on the front cover of this supplement and gives seasonal-round appeal between spring and autumn, and keeps its colour during the winter period. Stunning bright yellow variegated foliage meets the white flowers with a pronounced orange centre, flowering at the end of May. Another notable addition is Betula pendula `Spider Alley’ (pictured), a new contorted growing form of birch.

The brand’s growing tree and soft fruit should ensure that the 2010/2011 season is its best ever in terms of choice. See New Place at Four Oaks on stand E117-E119. For more information call 01798 873774 (ex 1), email steven@npnurseries.co.uk or visit www.npnurseries.com

from Kernock Two introductions that are sure to be the attraction of the season are Britain’s first truly dwarf patio Buddleia ‘Buzz’, named the Best New Plant Variety at the Grower of the Year Awards in February 2010 and the aptly named Supertunia ‘Pretty Much Picasso’. The latter was the winner of the Bedding Plant Innovation Award at IPM Essen 2010 because of its unique, eye catching violet-purple blooms edged with a lime-green. Bruce Harnett, MD of Kernock Park Plants said, “It is fantastic for us to be able to bring plants to the market place that display such a huge step forward in breeding of these much loved favourites. We are sure that retailers and consumers alike will be thrilled by these new additions to our already extensive catalogue”. The Kernock Park Plants 2011 catalogue will be further embellished with introductions such as Astelia ‘Red Devil’, three Alstromeria from the ‘Inca’ range, Hellebore ‘Silver Dollar’ and Geum ‘Eos’. Bruce concluded “This is one of our best years for some time regarding new plant introductions. We have plants with a real ‘wow factor’ that we are sure are going to stimulate a lot of interest and woo both the trade and the public”.
