A dry block building system for pools is proving a hit with professional UK companies. Fairlocks Pool Products have

been successfully selling the Betaloc™ Shuttering Block system since 2008 and say the method is a proven sure fire winner and, once employed, straight away becomes the primary build choice for many professional UK pool building companies.

The outstanding Betaloc™ system

is designed for vertical and horizontal reinforcement, creating excessive

strength both

compressively and laterally, which can be used for demanding projects with

general

constructional needs. Incorporating a unique dry build

process, Betaloc™ allows the blocks to be laid to a running bond in a

combination of half and third lengths. Dry building means that when stacking the blocks there is no need to mortar the joints together, thus saving time and extra cost implications. Using the Betaloc™ Shuttering Block also allows non- masons to construct with them, again saving on cost. The fact is that not so skilled persons on site can build footings, foundations and many other applications using the Betaloc™ Blocks while skilled masons are left free to concentrate on other areas of the project, creating a

faster rate of

construction. Although Betaloc™ Blocks are

lighter than most conventional hollow blocks and clearly more versatile, they can still accomplish minimum compression strength of 7.3N/mm². Betaloc™ can be used for any pool finish but their strength makes them particularly suitable for use in tiled pools.

£15 MILLION WORTH OF POOLS AXED IN SCHOOL CUTS

As many as 30 new swimming pool projects costing £15m will not now be built as part of the axe which has fallen on the UK’s school building programme. The coalition

government’s

announcement that suspending projects for 715 new schools as part of the latest tranche of spending cuts,

included a

number of pool projects. The coalition government took

its axe to a further £1.5bn in spending commitments, cutting £1bn from the schools budget and millions from the business department, communities and local government and the Home Office. The announcement coincided

with the education secretary’s confirmation that the £55bn, 20- year Building Schools for the Future programme would be cancelled altogether. Some 706 new school buildings and services that already have contracts signed will go ahead, but 715 more will be scrapped. The pool projects to be axed

include new pools for Basingstoke, Brighton, Derby and Bristol.
