RefuRbishment is still the woRd foR 2010

Almost all sectors of the specialist pool industry are enjoying higher levels of investment from pool owners wanting to renovate – with everything from fresh tiling, new lighting, upgrading pool surrounds and the purchasing of more energy saving covers and heating systems

T

here was a time when many swimming pools were considered to be ‘beyond economical repair’.

The options to restore, restyle and renovate

seemed scarce and too often pools were allowed to deteriorate and often disappear. Now with the tough economic climate

continuing and new pool projects relatively scarce, there’s an added enthusiasm and demand to provide cost effective refurbishment solutions to bring pools back to life and restore as new. For the UK’s specialist trade – for

manufacturers and builders – it brought new challenges and new opportunities. For not only is

the market for refurbishments and renovations still buoyant, it’s offering better solutions with new products available for those willing to invest in their existing pool. More new and innovative products and designs

have hit the market in the last two years than ever before. Automatic pool covers, liners, lighting and landscaping – are all ingredients of the pool refurbishment process. Trade predictions are that more basic medium

sized pools market will continue struggling this year. But the trade is busier than ever at the moment focusing on the ability to persuade existing pool owners to spend money on investing and upgrading their pools.

There are still some popular renovation options that include:

LigHting: Lighting systems are providing the trade with big business as special lighting can change colours and intensity at relatively low cost. Pool owners especially with private pools are seeing that no restoration is complete without the addition of a spectacular lighting system.

SHAPe And FiniSH: Irregular shaped pools are all the rage in today’s restorations. Companies have many options in this area and owners can create their own shape, taking into account any plumbing or landscaping limitations. Additionally,

Sometimes what’s needed is a completely fresh start but sensible systems can complete a dramatic makeover as in this example for Heritage Pools
