become huge in recent years with all types of outer construction from wooden to resin and fibreglass. The one thing these pools all have in common is that they need liners so you could even say that the good old basic bag liner has actually had a bit more than a hand in expanding that side of the market as well as being the staple diet of many in-ground pools. It is also worth mentioning that larger above-ground pools, particularly those fitted with swim jets and heated should definitely qualify for in-ground liner quality to an absolute minimum thickness of 20 thou and preferably 30 thou. Aquaflex is a name that stands out as one of

the most respected and well established specialist liner and cover manufacturers in the UK and is renowned for the exceptional quality and fit of their liners plus their longevity. Aquaflex’s Neil Dalziel explains; “Vinyl liners consist of two main

ingredients, these being polymer, which is the basic liner structure and plasticiser, which is what gives the liner its flexibility. Also present in the mix are bacteriastats, fungicides and UV additives to prevent damage from the sun. The right mix is vital in order to produce a first-rate liner, so we only manufacture using premium liner material from a respected source.” Neil continues; “On top of the obvious need for

superior material one of the reasons we recommend an absolute minimum of 20 thou liner thickness, and actively encourage customers to use 30 thou, is that anything lower is unlikely to carry the specifically prescribed essential additives. Low-gauge imported liners are just a cheap short term fix and won’t have the staying power that comes with Aquaflex pre-fabricated liners. Our liner material is manufactured by RENOLIT who are international leaders in the

manufacture of high-quality liner materials. We also manufacture and supply our own unique beading which is designed to ensure a smooth and tight fit between the liner and the liner lock. Neil again; “Just to iron out another query we

often get regarding water temperature guidance for liner pools: The reason most competent liner manufacturers advocate temperatures around the 30° mark is that the higher the water temperature, the more difficult the water chemistry becomes to balance. It’s not the heat that will cause fading and premature ageing in liners, but that of poor water chemistry.” As well as very good material, Aquaflex also

offers a comprehensive measuring service for pre- fabricated liners, and this is particularly advantageous in pools that are difficult to measure due to being of an unusual shape or having obstacles such as shelved and pit areas.
