Newbridge Baptist Church has been in Woodfin for nearly a century.

Baptist Church has been part of the history of the Woodfin com- munity. In 1915, a group of 12 charter members began what was originally called the Woodfin Hill Mission. Later that same year after the addition of 35 other members, the church was officially renamed as Newbridge Baptist Church. Te following year in 1916, land


was purchased and work began on the church’s first building located at the Ashco Awning on Weaver- ville Highway. Over 40 years lat- er, NBC purchased the 13.6 acres at its present location. Te current education building was completed in 1961 and the present sanctuary was completed in 1980. As the church continued to grow, more facilities were needed. Education- al space was added in 1996 and

Introductory fly- fishing program


Te Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program of the N.C. Wildlife


Resources Commission will offer a special introduction to fly-fishing in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains this spring. ”Te Fly-Fishing Weekend” is scheduled for April 9-11 at the Pis-


gah Center for Wildlife Education and Davidson River Campground in Transylvania County. Registration is open on a first come, first serve basis for women 18


and older. A one-time fee of $125 covers instruction, equipment, most meals and camping accommodations. Participants will learn the basics of fly-fishing from experienced


anglers, including equipment needs, knots, fly-tying, casting and aquatic entomology. Ten, those skills will be put to use fishing the blue ribbon trout waters of the Davidson River in a private session for participants.
