TOBY TURNER— Firefighters’ Indian River County Fair

After attending ten

years of Federation and IAFE conventions as a representative of the Firefighters Indian River County Fair, Toby Turner was elected to the board in May. Toby played a crucial role in assisting Melody Bush with this year‘s convention Trade Show and serving as a Blue Ribbon Fair Judge. Born in the coal town of Williamson,

West Virginia, Toby grew up in Vero Beach and knew from a very young age he wanted to be a fireman like his father. His tenacity and sense of re- sponsibility served him well as was evident when purchased the family home and was hired by the fire depart- ment that he so longed to be a part of, both at the young age of 18.

the Vero Beach Firefighters as a fund- raiser to provide financial assistance for burn victims in the community. Toby has been involved with the Fair since its inception in 1980, serving for 16 years as the parking director and selected 13 years ago as General Manager, a position he still holds to- day. Relishing his role of community ser-

vant, Toby has been recognized in the fire service with many awards, plaques and proclamations. Since 1987 he has served as an instructor at the Fort Pierce Fire Academy and in his free time he is a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America. Toby and his wife Becky are planning

to celebrate their 25th wedding anni- versary with a well deserved trip to Europe. They also enjoy spending quality time outdoors with their three sons. ―I have never thought of myself as being in the Fair business, but I do

know that as part of a team if you treat employees and volunteers right, they will treat the public right,‖ he stated. The overwhelming success of the Fire- fighters Indian River County Fair and the money raised for burn treatment victims is evident that Toby Turner and all of the Vero Beach community fire- fighters have huge hearts and are defi- nitely doing it right!
