Parade on Monday, March 8th, Ellany Johnson was riding high in a red Chevrolet Corvette convertible that matched her red dress suit. Signing on as a festival volunteer in 1975, Ellany became a full-time employee as the office manager and exhibit concession manager in 1989.

nounced that Ellany Johnson would be the Grand Marshall of our parade she wanted to deny the honor lamenting that it was reserved for important people,‖ said Paul Davis, General Manager of the Strawberry Festival. ―Miss Ellany is the heart and soul of the this office and the Florida Strawberry Festival, there is no one more important than her, she is most deserving and we are so blessed to have her.‖

games for the entire family. This year‘s Fair entertain- ment featured NoJoe’s Clown Circus, Hypnotist Mark Yuzik, Fiddlin’ Jessy Daumen, Avon Park High School Choir, Sebring High School Choir and the Cali- fornia Toe Jam Band. In addition we also hosted the Miss Highlands County, Jr. Miss Highlands County and Little Miss Highlands County pageants. The Girl Scouts continued on with their traditional cookie eating contest and the Red Hat Ladies hosted a social event during the Fair.
The Junior Livestock Show numbers were down this
year, mostly due to the economy. However, the prices at the Junior Livestock Auction were very good. All exhibitors received at least $2.00 a pound; this in- cluded all beef and swine projects.
The new convention center that is currently under
construction is moving right along. We hope to be complete with construction in April.
All together the 2010 Highlands County Fair was a
success. We extend our best wishes to everyone for a good fair season.
