Giles Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament—From Champions to Legends…………………. FORE-ty eight folks signed up for the 10th Annual Giles

Ellis Golf Tournament held in conjunction with the Florida Federation of Fairs conference May 12th. Once again, the Home of the LPGA in Daytona Beach, FL was the venue of choice. This year though, players went from Champions to Legends – the course, that is. The Legends Course is a bit less forgiving, but all in all scores reflected a fun loving group. FORE-bidden though, was any creative bookkeeping. Our volunteers saw to that. FORE-teen volunteers

What a pair—need we say more!

helped throughout the day. Those folks ranged from Volusia County Fair staffers and directors to Jeff Ross of Ross Confec- tions, Christy and Rob of the Amazing Rainforest / Pets Overboard to KC Robertson – a regular Fair volunteer. FORE-tunately weather participated to its fullest

extent. A little breeze with only a smattering of clouds; what a perfect day! FORE pre tourney enjoyment, the return of the Denny-the

-Clown Putting Contest was another HUGE hit. AKA, Den- nis Lee was kind enough to offer his likeness as a target. In the Men‘s competition, ironically Dennis himself dropped his first try right through the lips and into the hole. Tim O‘Brien of O‘Brien Foods did the same. Hence, a ―putt-off‖. Dennis pushed his ball far right leaving an easy ―just smack Denny‘s face with the ball‖ shot for Tim. Tim added another dimple to Denny the Clown…and the ball he used. Celeb- rity guest golfer Amanda Correia, Giles‘s daughter, was the female winner. Both received ―chicken head‖ putter covers. FORE the entire day Coca-Cola and Budweiser donated product was enjoyed by all. As FORE-mentioned, the weather was just perfect! FORE dinner prior to the

awards ceremony, Kristen Roberson, the Golf Sales Manager at the LPGA (and

no relation to the a-FORE-mentioned KC) recommended the chicken picatta. It was superb and was topped off by the favorite dessert of Lisa Hinton (newly inducted into the Florida Federation of Fairs Hall of Fame), Macadamia Nut Cookies. FORE prizes, 1st thru 3rd received some great trophies.

But as in tradition (going back all the way to last year) the last 2 place teams were dually awarded mementos. Last year bobble heads were the prize of choice. For 2010 last place was a repeat by the team from the South Florida Fair; Theresa Agricola, Rite DeMier, Tim Puchis and Brian Keller all received Trash Can golf head covers. Second to last place got to split up a chicken, steer, sheep, and pig head covers. (Daphne Products makes some really neat head covers.) FORE-titude pre-

vailed. Those 1st place trophies went to the same team as last year; the Strates Shows team - John Strates, Doug Dills and Joe Doremas all of Strates and Mark Harvey of the North Florida Fair in Tallahassee. FORE the longest drive John Strates won a Gorilla head

cover and Ron Paley who reps Tyzen-Master of Laughter won a Rabbit head cover for closest to the hole…er, pin. FORE fun? Definitely!

But better yet, the tourna- ment raised just under $8,000 for the Federation; an increase of 16%! FORE-ward planning

moves the annual confer- ence to World Golf Village Home of the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine next year. Mark your calendar NOW and plan on a trip to sunny Florida FORE a great time on May 11th. -by Thom Giordano, CFE
