SUMMER WORKSHOP This year‘s Summer Workshop will be held August 13th
and 14th at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds in Ft. Pierce. This year‘s program will feature 3 distinctive tracks. The
tacks will be: Agroterrorism; Competitive Exhibits; and Fair Business workshops. The Agroterrorism course goal is to increase awareness
about the potential targets and impacts of agroterror- ism. By creating a new alliance among traditional first re- sponders and the agricultural industry, communities can begin to develop plans to prevent and mitigate acts of agro- terrorism. The course raises awareness about the need to identify and defend against pathogens, chemical and bio- logical contaminants, and other hazards that affect the safety of the foods we eat. The course stresses the impor- tance of responding to incidents of intentional contamina- tion as well as natural disasters using the ―all hazards‖ ap- proach. As many county Fairs have great opportunity to cultivate good local relationships among agricultural pro- ducers, Fair officials need to be aware of the vulnerabilities that exists in our agriculture and food animal indus- tries. This training allows citizens and local business own- ers to help local frontline response teams strengthen their capability to prevent/mitigate, detect, respond to, and re- cover from agroterrorism incidents in their communities.
table topics specific to the non-agriculture competitive ex- hibit aspects of our Fairs. The group will work on develop- ing a list of judges for these events as well as setting stan- dards for judging. The Fair Business track will cover a wide range of gen-
eral Fair subjects from accounting procedures, budgeting for both Fair and non-fair, and well as legal issues that af- fect our Fairs. Dan West and the Summer Workshop Committee have
done a great job putting this program together—you won’t want to miss it!
