T

his is a takeover. I am Maxie. Outline team player, ‘zine writer and gig promoter and this

month, your attention is mine as I take over Outline as guest editor for July. This month will be exciting and groundbreaking. As well as encouraging and accepting the Pride with open arms, we are also amazingly lucky to have the obvious and often

‘given’ anticipation for some brilliant independent gigs and events that are always an occurrence in Norwich. It’s all about new blood baby, you’ve just got to taste it. So to whet you up, Akiko Matsuura should be your newest idol. She has such an awe-inspiring attitude that I think it is important we can all take on a piece of her. Continuing in this subversity, Viv Albertine is a TROOPER. She is playing Ladyfest at the Norwich Arts Centre, and as the singer of The Slits, she purveys the kind of energy that is just too cool for you. Sorry. And then there’s the cover stars, Vampire Weekend. Latitude is surely the most exciting festival in Suffolk (DUH!), and I love it. To have this great and relatively young band playing, we just had to get a piece of their action. We here in Norwich are used to young flesh; we nurse incredible subcultures that are presently bubbling and gassing out hot, hot totty. I consider the hardcore scene to be an essential part of the thick culture adorning Norwich right now, so we give props to the events with Throats, a band too difficult to ignore. Norwich Pride is happening this month, which gave me the excuse to mention some ideals close to my heart. The Norfolk LGBT Project is a grassroots charity that in my opinion, provide the most essential support and action in the plight for LGBT issues in our vicinity; they are always and constantly striving for more, more, more, with no element of martyrdom and every element of positive thinking and proactive doing. And so, there seems to be a theme in this issue, whoever the hell you are, whatever the hell you do, do it and be proud and be positive. With my editorial commandeering done, I give thanks to Em and Kev.

Love, Maxie.
