CAMBRIDGE ROCK FESTIVAL 05-08 August Barton, nr Cambridge

t was a reaffirming moment when Journey re-entered the charts twenty years after it first made an appearance. Sure, it got there by the powerful mass marketing of a certain show choir teen drama, but what the makers of the show knew as well as we do, is that Classic Rock never dies. The outfits are about the only associated item with some sort of shelf life, but the riffs, the soaring vocals and the power of rock itself has barely been tarnished. Celebrating Classic Rock for seven years now, Cambridge Rock Festival returns to show you why the sound is still so strong with some of the genres most celebrated acts and musicians. Featuring some super groups in the way of Whitesnake’s Mick Moody leading Monsters of British Rock and a powerhouse of musicians in the form of The 80s Rocked, there’ll be hits you know and cherish all throughout the event. Better than that, it’s two for one for any Outline readers that book their tickets and quote ‘Outline’. Call the Box Office on 01353 749749.

I 20-22 AUGUSTTwinwood Arena, nr Bedford RHYTHM FESTIVAL B

ritain’s continuing love affair with live music has afforded us music lovers a slew of festivals every year that seem to cater to each individual as we are. There are those of us that take on the battle-like challenge of the big commercial festivals, swapping our dignity for a portaloo and overpriced can of Carling at the entrance and genuinely love it, but for those that herald the freedom of an un- sponsored event with more than a she-wee to pee in, there’s Rhythm Festival. Their commitment to offering services that don’t pilfer your pockets has made it the setting for the warmest festival vibes. Mojo have described it as “the happiest of festivals”, but man cannot live on toilet roll alone; obviously, the mainstay is the roster of intelligently chosen acts, from classics like The Damned, Billy Bragg and 10cc, to a collection of others still waiting to win your hearts.
