New songs were written all week including one that asked the question ‘What can you do to help change the world into a better place’. The children suggested recycling paper and plastic and saving water. One child decided to set up a factory building Hybrid Cars whilst another wanted to set up a plant that would make solar panels !

3 days of training workshops in Community Music drew over 30 teachers, students, dance and theatre practitioners. The environmental theme continued with the use of all sorts of sounds including Chinese drums and water bottles. In the UK, More Music has a percussion installation called the East Street Gamelan that features all sorts of instruments made out of scrap.

Shanghai 2010

‘We Need a Hill in Shanghai’ was a song that developed throughout the week and was sung by Pete here to 450 students at the Shanghai American School. The lyrics are at the heart of people’s feelings for a better future.

Pete was singing with people all week and at Chung Ming Community Centre he worked with over 80 elders in the concert hall. Playing traditional tunes with some erhu players and then leading an enthusiastic vocal session. Next stop an exchange trip with the Seagulls in Morecambe (This is an elders group that meets at More Music).
