Alabama Orchestra Association
Happy New Fall to You All Maggie Snyder, President, AOA
I hope this finds you well and get- ting into the swing of things after a
restful and productive (not too warm!) summer.
I just have a couple of items to report to you. First is infor- mation about the AOA All State Orchestra Festival Composition Competition that will have its inaugural year this season. The membership voted by email ballot this summer to instigate the proposed Competition this year (with no negative votes or questions). I have created a large and involved (72 name) email list for the Alabama Orchestra Association.
If you have not received emails
from me this summer, please contact me to be included on the list or to clarify any address issues. Likewise, please email me if you would like to be removed. A copy of this new composition competition proposal is included in this issue.
We have 72 registered AOA members (people who have checked the Orchestra box when registering for AMEA and MENC). General meeting attendance is at about 15 at AMEAand ASOF sessions, and email response to summer voting was also on the low side. Please make sure and remain involved! Your voice and presence are very impor-
tant to the life and structure of our organization and we greatly appreciate your support. Being such a large and active bunch of musicians, students, and teachers, we rely greatly on the input and energy of all of our volunteers. Your energy is appreciated and invaluable to keeping our activities going.
To keep this short and sweet (as I'm sure you're all as dis- tracted as I am getting into the swing of things), I'll mere- ly say that everything to do with All State Orchestra Festival 2007 will be posted online this year, including downloadable forms and excerpts for auditions. We will be posting the names and contacts for the districts so that there will be a much easier interface for our festival par- ticipants. Thanks for all your patience with this and I look forward to the website's premiere. We will post links in all of the various places (AMEA site, UA site, Musicorg, etc). Lift-off for this site will be September 1.
Please also mark your calendars with deadlines and upcoming events pertaining to AOA. I look forward to seeing you all soon! Please email me any time with ques- tions and comments about anything to do with AOA or ASOF!
