Alabama Bandmasters Association

Thank You and Welcome Back Dr. Russell Logan, President, ABA

As I write this, over the July 4th weekend, I would like to thank all

the ABAmembers for a wonderful first year as your pres- ident. Our organization truly has some outstanding mem- bers. From the Executive Board to the General Membership, we continually strive to do what is best for the band students of Alabama. Just listening to the con- versations that were held last week at the summer in-serv- ice would make anyone want to continue in our chosen profession. The professionalism and caring of the mem- bership is inspiring. If you were not able to attend the in- service, you missed great clinics and camaraderie. Thanks go out to those members who gave of their time and knowledge for our membership. The clinics present- ed by Chris Moore, Mike Muncher, Dr. Larry Blocher, Dr. Johnnie Vinson and Dr. Lacy Powell were both informa- tional and enjoyable. Our final concert was presented by the 313th Army Band's Brass Quintet. If you would like to have the 313th come to your school, please contact them. They would love to come and work with your stu- dents.

Please be reminded to take care of all ABA matters in a timely manner. Found in this edition of Ala Breve is a cal- endar of district and state events. Pay attention to dead- lines and make sure all entry forms are completed on time and accurately. All entry forms for 2006-2007 are new. Please do not use any forms from the past years. All updat- ed forms will be on the AMEA website by the beginning of the school year.

The site address is

www.alabamamea.org. The first thing you need to do is to join MENC. As of June 30 all MENC memberships in Alabama expired. For your students to participate in any ABAevents you must be a member in good standing with MENC. It is easier to renew your membership or join now than it will be the day before the first ABA event. Visit MENC at www.menc.org to obtain a membership form. All information for the ABADirectory should be forward- ed to Gene Gooch by September 15.

Please check this past year's directory to see if any infor- mation needs to be changed. If you are new to Alabama (or a new teacher), please get this information to your District Chairman.
