SPRING 2010 IS HERE!

It’s time to go to your closet, put away the wool, fabulous

tweeds and corduroy from Fall. Winter is over! It’s time for color and plaid, destroyed denim, classic Americana, preppy redux and major new designers. Get ready for Trovata, Ship- ley & Halmos, Band of Outsiders, Albert Hammond Jr & T by Alexander Wang.

HERE ARE MY TOP FIVE

LOOKS & TRENDS

FOR SUMMER ‘10:

SPURR - Yes this is way too much plaid for anyone. My suggestion? A retro-inspired plaid blazer worn with black, skinny, slightly short trousers. Plaid is a big trend holding over from fall! AMC’s hit TV show Mad Men is still one of fashion’s biggest influences. Simon Spurr is my fave new designer. His Fall ‘09 collection was genius and with his cur- rent Spring ‘10 collection he proves a star is born. Picking up where D&G left off Spring/Summer ‘09, Spurr is doing Spring ‘10’s biggest trend, color, better than anyone! And look at that styling! J’adore a pocket square!

SHIPLEY & HALMOS - If you haven’t heard of (or purchased) this design duo you are so behind the moment. It doesn’t hurt that the designers are as cute as their clothes. Look for classic Americana like this adorable, colorful anorak. Style note: this summer nothing looks fresher than white jeans and very light chinos! They go with everything.

BAND OF OUTSIDERS - There is nothing ‘outside’ about this line! In fact it’s quickly become the insiders arbiter of hip. Prep with a hip twist, the Spring ‘10 collection is the perfect example of how to do a big trend, layering, the spot on, per- fect way! Look at B of O’s modern take on the blazer: slightly shrunken, way cool.

PATRIK ERVELL - Patrik was once an editor at V (the hot- test fashion mag ever). Now he’s using crazy, new fabrics like parachute material to expand the definition of fashion while creating cool, wearable, covet-able clothes. This line is downtown NY boy-chic at it’s hippest.

MICHAEL BASTIAN - I never thought I would want denim shorts. Especially destroyed denim shorts. Now I do. Enough said. And I wanna wear them with a luxe suede trench that’s the color of the desert at dusk. Of course Michael gets it right. He was men’s fashion director at Bergdorf’s before launching his own line.

What is amazing about the above designers is they are all

new. Most have major design experience, like the guys from Shipley & Halmos who are refugees from the ever-changing line-up at Trovata, but each company is less than 10 years old. They are each pushing American fashion forward, creat- ing clothes that are wearable, hip and I believe, that you’ll want to wear season after season. Spring has sprung! Go forth and shop!
