“Bill…Are you paying attention? It’s time to write your editor notes!” “I know. I was just thinking

about it.” “Uh-huh.” Spring fever has hit your editor-in-chief in a big way. As the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein song says, “My, I feel so gay in a melancholy way…” Well, it’s a pleasure to sound the trumpets out for our May spotlights and for our one-year anniversary edition of The Rage Monthly in Orange County and L.A.! Here we go. Let’s begin with a beautiful songbird who is both enticingly sexy but has a smoky voice that could quite simply charm the birds out of the trees. Her name is Toni Braxton and after a brief hiatus [in show business years] she releases a new CD called Pulse. The interview proves beyond a doubt that Toni Braxton is one “down-to-earth” diva on page 44. Discovering more about Hollywood in any way has always been a delight. Whether it’s the glamorous stars of Old Hollywood or the movers and shakers of the 1970s such as Robert Evans or Frances Ford Coppola…so when I came across an item in the iconic gossip maven Liz Smith’s column about a new book on gay and out movie and theatre producer Allan Carr, it sparked my interest. Robert Hofler was gracious enough to speak with me over the phone from his offices at Variety where he resides as Senior Editor of the L.A.

division. Thoroughly enjoying his book Party Animals: A Hollywood Tale of Sex, Drugs and Rock N’ Roll

Starring the Fabulous Allan Carr, Hofler is gives an insightful and realistic look at the flamboyant and oh-so-gay man/child known as Allan Carr on page 40. Now to fast forward to the 1980s and the music scene at the time…Lisa Lisa speaks volumes as a hit machine with The Cult Jam. Their numerous songs sparked a generation of beat boxes, break dancing and bouncy pop with a Latin flair. Lisa Lisa is still entertaining the masses and her most recent release called Life ’n Love is a blend of beautiful ballads and dance-inspired selections. The Rage Monthly caught up with this Latin spitfire of music on page 55. There is also a newer artist called Levi Kreis on the musical horizon who not only is scoring a hit on MTV Music Online but starring in a Broadway musical production of Million Dollar Quartet in which he sings, plays piano and acts in the role of Jerry Lee Lewis. This multi-talented performer and songwriter is also proudly out of the closet and quite a spiritual person. Discover just what I mean on page 36. For all those heading to Long Beach Pride on May 15 and May 16…have a fabulous time and check out our guide to some of the fun on page 12 and page 13. We hope that as we zoom into the summer months… you enjoy the fresh breezes of spring and the warmer days of May with The Rage Monthly.
