diabetes linked to the obesity levels being seen in children. It is estimat- ed that among children born after the year 2000, one of three will develop diabetes. When children develop dia- betes after age 14, their life spans are decreased by an estimated 17 to 27 years. This may make them the first generation to live shorter lives than their parents.
