Exercise as Medicine
I
n this issue, we profile Dr. Kenneth Cooper, one of the world’s leading advocates for and practitioners of pre- ventive medicine.
For over 40 years, Cooper has been advocating health- ier lifestyles through basic healthy eating and regular ex-
ercise. But with less than 1% of healthcare dollars spent on disease prevention, the American healthcare system continues to labour under duress. As you will read, Cooper and his associates offer an excellent example of how medical prac- titioners working with fitness and nutrition professionals can achieve remark- able results. (See “Dr. Kenneth Cooper” page 20). Also in this issue is the first in a series of supplier profiles by writer Kathryn
Korchok. These articles highlight the people, technology and history of product and service providers and their significance to the fitness industry. While each profile focuses on one specific company, an underlying objective of the series is to enhance the relationships between all equipment suppliers, buyers and users. (See “A Life in Fitness” page 46.) Do you have a star performer in your organization? From management and
sales personnel to support staff and personal trainers, we’d like to hear about them all for upcoming stories! Tell your story by emailing us at
