Harley BROWN
DOING WHAT COMES NATURAL
Harley Brown came to the United States in 2003 with his stallion Blue Diamond,
arriving here with his suitcase in one hand and his horse in the other. His initial
plan was to show the horse and sell him, but after being here a short time, Harley
decided that he would like to make the US his base.
The pair had already won Championships in the 1.40m and 1.45m divisions, but
1995 began his dream and started his World Cup campaign that has continued
to encompass many years and several continents. Finishing the 2006 World Cup
League qualifiers with points equal to the 4th placed US based combination, he
was the reserve rider picked for the final in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
That same year he was invited to Europe for the Australian selection event for
the 2006 WEG. Finishing the qualifiers as one of five Australian riders selected
to compete at these trials, unfortunately Blue Diamond was injured and unable to
compete for his country. Due to that injury, Blue Diamond is now retired from
competition but Harley will be forever grateful of what that horse did for him
– make a mark in the US and enabling him to establish a business.
In July of 2005 he acquired Cassiato, an 18h former dressage horse that had never
jumped. Seven at the time, his first jumper show was Pebble Beach in August of
that year. As though fate already had a plan for this pair, at the same show only
one year later, 2006, they were clean in the Grand Prix and in the ribbons. Exactly
one year after that he won the $30,000 Grand Prix at Pebble Beach!
Now campaigning the big horse on the World Cup league qualifier tour, he is in
second place after the first three classes, and is currently on the Australian Short-
