programmes, including Kuoni and Virgin Holidays, and venues, including Thailand-based Centara Hotels & Resorts, sometimes wrap a set number of snaps from trusted photographers into standard ceremony packages, with upgrades available. their wedding budget for photography and shouldn’t expect to scrimp because they are overseas.
Reportage Some couples favour naturalistic, unposed photos of the big day, a style called reportage or photojournalism. It’s a hit with Ionian Weddings clients: “Photojournalism is a personal and friendly service with English-speaking pros and a tour around the best spots of the island for an informal shoot,” says joint founder Andreas Palikira. In Kefalonia, a three-hour package covering bridal preparations, ceremony, portraits and informal session on location costs ¤450 with a 120 image CD. Most photographers pay commission.
“Reportage photography has become more popular recently as it captures the moments of the day organically,” says Planet Holidays & Weddings managing director Mathilde Robert. At a Planet ceremony in Paphos, 24 standard photos costs from £284 and a 30-minute DVD from £358 but reportage is priced individually. All Planet photography is commissionable.
Spectacular settings St Lucia wedding planner Tamara Edwin of Dreamy Weddings recommends shoots at Pigeon Island National Landmark for spectacular cliffside scenery and atmospheric ruins. Resorts offering varied photo locations include boutique The Sarojin
at Khao Lak, Thailand where couples can pose on the beach, beneath a giant ficus tree, by a jungle waterfall or on the resort’s private yacht. They can even hire an elephant. Photography typically costs around £80 an hour.
Creative souvenirs Sandals Resorts can turn wedding snaps into an array of souvenirs including books, canvases, magnets, postcards, thank you notes and calendars. Photography ranges from $1,400 to $3,100 depending on location and package. The Traditional package includes a 110-image digital album, unstretched photo canvas, two 21-image pocket
