TTG Toolkit Good Business Race talk with our runners
Alisha Anderson Facilities coordinator, Abta
Are you a runner? Running was my new year’s resolution. I wanted a new hobby and a distraction from a broken heart. I’ve become much healthier as a result – lunch is salad nowadays.
Training I’ve been training five days a week in the gym. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday I do interval training, Wednesday I take it easy and Sunday I push myself to run for longer.
Race aims
I’ll be hoping to complete in under one hour 30, to get as close to the one-hour mark as possible.
Motivation
Abta LifeLine has inspired some really incredible stories, and we’re looking forward to raising awareness so that people know they can apply for help when they need it.

Are you a runner? I do run fairly regularly, once or twice a week, to keep my fitness up, and get away from the phone and emails.
Training
I am used to running this sort of distance. However, with it being an official timed event in front of the crowds, I’ll be more conscientious, and maybe cut out alcohol in the run-up!
Race aims
Depending on the weather and my mood, I usually run 10k in about an hour so I’ll hope to do that on the day.
Motivation I’d been looking at entering a charity race for a while and this one appealed when I saw it in TTG, because I can raise money for a worthwhile cause, while running an interesting route around London.
right) says: “Abta LifeLine recently supported an agent whose twins have cerebral palsy. We helped send the twins to America for life-changing surgery and they can now walk
Training I have now joined a gym, and am building up to running 10 minutes on the faster speeds without stopping. I’m hoping to add five minutes each time. The weather has been a bit too wet to go for any runs outside!
Race aims
I just want to complete it. I don’t mind if that happens in one hour or five.
Motivation I interviewed Mia Austin – Abta LifeLine helped her when she was diagnosed with Locked-in Syndrome following a stroke. It’s nice to have a personal link to such a great cause.
flat-footed. The money raised from the London 10k will help us make a difference to the lives of many more families in our industry.” ■

Are you a runner? No. I used to run the 1,500 metres at school and I ran a 5k Race for Life three years ago. When I met my partner I lied about doing twice-weekly six-mile runs. I was soon caught out!

Are you a runner? Yes, I’ve been running for a couple of years now. I did the Run to the Beat half-marathon two years ago and I have roped in my colleague Sarah Spiller to do it with me this year, so we thought this 10k would be good training.
Training I’m running about once a week, cutting down on cake and trying to drink less alcohol, but it never lasts very long!
Race aims
My last 10k I completed in 53.5 minutes, so I’d like to improve on that.
Motivation I didn’t know anything about Abta LifeLine until a few weeks ago but then I watched some emotive videos on the website. Sarah and I are planning to set up a joint fundraising page, and we’ll shake our buckets in the office.
Twelve runners from the travel industry will take part in the British 10k on July 10, raising money for Abta LifeLine. We talk to four about their training so far
