BEREAVEMENTS
Ardon Berkeley Judd Jr., Houston, died April 25. He was born in Houston on Oct. 7, 1936, to Ardon B. Judd
Sr. and Sallie Reynolds Matthews. His maternal family included the Matthews and Reynolds ranching families, who did much to settle north-central Texas, including establishing the Lambshead Ranch. He was educated at Kinkaid and St. John’s Schools in
Houston; Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Va.; Denison University; and the University of Texas School of Law. He married Nancy Ruina (Rue) Wallace of Gainesville,
Fla., in June 1965. They raised their daughters, Nancy Alston Judd and Sallie Matthews Judd, in Arlington, Va. Judd, an honorary director of TSCRA, started his ca-
reer in government service as a lawyer for the Federal Trade Commission, before working in private practice and ultimately joining Dresser Industries, where he spent over 30 years as vice president of governmental affairs. He is survived by Rue, their daughters Nancy (John Barclay Armstrong), Houston, and Sallie (Justin Doug- las Abelow), New York; and numerous other relatives. Dr. Harlan Ritchie died April 27. He was born Aug. 3, 1935, to Donald and Irma (Johanson) Ritchie in
Storm Lake, Iowa, and was a 1953 graduate of Albert City High School. After graduating from Iowa State, Ritchie began his
Michigan State University career as an assistant in- structor and became a full professor of animal science in 1971. His career at MSU spanned close to 5 decades. He received a plethora of awards. Among his most prized were the MSU Distinguished Faculty Award, the ISU Animal Science Hall of Fame Award, and the Iowa State Henry A. Wallace Award. In 1957, he married Lou Ellyn Hale, who preceded
him in death in February 1993. In 1996, Richie married Leah Cox Hoopfer. He is survived by Leah, and sons Bill (Maureen McGinnis); Don (Ann Marie Dumouchelle); and Christopher (Hae Won Lee); and numerous other relatives. Memorials may be made to the Michigan State Uni-
