Pinocchio comes to Efteling T

he famous Dutch theme park Efteling has gone back to its roots by

introducing a new character this season to the Sprookjesbos, the fairytale forest at the heart of the park that was once its main attraction. The new addition, located

between Little Red Riding Hood and The Red Shoes, comprises a number of

sections, including interactive elements

and subtle references to the Italian origins of the story. The visit starts with a glimpse into Geppetto's workshop (pictured above right), after which visitors set off in search of Pinocchio and Geppetto. Opened on March 24, this the Sprookjesbos' 29th fairytale.

*Efteling received 4.68 million visits during 2015, up from 4.4 million in 2014. The increase is accredited largely due to the investments including the Baron 1898 rollercoaster and additions to the Efteling Bosrijk holiday village, the success of which is helping to spread attendance more evenly across calendar (the park now opens 365 days a year). The park recorded a 10% increase in visitors from Germany, France and the UK last season, though its Midsummernights and New Year ‘s Eve events were patronised mainly by Dutch guests.
