Comment: Airlines should be on the front foot in the fuel surcharge debate For years airlines have either lost money, broken even or made paltry profits (1% return on investment). They see this as the time to cash in. None are going to be embarrassed about the continuing fuel surcharge level – they are all just doing the same thing and ignoring it.

I won payout for delay without using a solicitor

Story: Demand for new EU aviation strategy to be strengthened This European aviation strategy document is a confused fudge over the most vital issue. It talks about requesting new EU-level agreements with several countries and regions in the world ‘to improve market access’. Really? The Gulf region, which includes Dubai, Abu Dhabi and


Qatar, already has far too much market access for the size of its home market. It needs to be brought into equitable balance. That means the EU being prepared to walk away from talks and/or terminate air services agreements if necessary. To those who say ‘but these are friendly countries; this will damage other economic links’, I say don’t kid yourself that your so-called strategy is going to ‘enable European aviation to flourish globally.’ If we concede to those requests which are against our interests, the result will not be a ‘flourishing’ future for EU aviation but a gradual decline: an aviation version of Chinese steel-dumping.
